Singapore – 10-29

This morning Robin and Mark left for Bali and we, along with some friends (Linda & Burt), left early to do a proper run around Singapore. Just seeing the city from the ship was awesome.  We already knew what a clean city it was and the fact that English was the first language – well we were thrilled! The first method of transportation was a cable car up to Mt. Faber where views were spectacular and then down and over the water and our ship to Sentosa Island. This is like a playground and historical site rolled into one.  There is a huge monument called the Merlion which is an animal with the head of a lion and the body of a fish.  Boys, does that remind you of our game? Can’t wait to play when I get back as I have lots of new ideas!  We toured the South side of the island dedicated to Fort Siloso which is where the English tried to hold off the Japanese during WW2.

We hopped on a monorail and headed to the other end of the island which was a giant shopping center and mini sea world built around the Merlion. I was able to go to the Hard Rock for a Singapore t-shirt.  We toured this area for awhile then caught the monorail again for the subway that would take us to Raffles.  What a beautiful place that is!  When you walk in it feels like you stepped back in time to the 40’s when movie stars, world leaders, famous writers and the wealthy English hung around for Singapore Slings. Waving rattan fans overhead creating just enough air flow to keep you slightly cool. Winding wood staircases and dark hardwood floors along with the cane furniture, couches and tables laid out in a lazy fashion.  Spectacular!  So of course I had a $25 Sling and it was good! After a late lunch at a nearby cafe we caught a taxi to do some touring.  We were able to see the nep1000968-2(rev 0)west wonder called Tower Park.  It is three extremely tall buildings which appear to be holding up a giant cruise ship.  Some others say it looks like a plane and others a park.  I guess it’s all in the eye of the beholder.  It was beautiful nonetheless but we didn’t have the time to go up.

We did a little shopping at the mall by the ship and then had to return.  We all wished that we could have had more time in this lovely city, another day at least. Tomorrow it’s over the Equator and all the drains will go the opposite way – Mark and Hank are real excited about that! Wahoo!

Hugs from all of us – we miss you!  Can’t believe we are over half way now and on our way home.
